Reading is an important element of speaking. You cannot be a good speaker if you are not an avid reader. Even outside of speaking, children who love reading already have a lifetime advantage over non-readers. Reading helps them think, learn and understand facts much more easily - and that will give them a great academic head-start and a learning advantage over non-readers.

I challenge you to get to a bookshop today or a library and buy/rent a book on your child's favourite subject - even if the subject is non-academic in nature.
